The Real Causes of Pimples

If someone tries to tell you that you have pimples because you don’t have bad hygiene, don’t believe it. Dirt is not a cause of a bad complexion. In fact, overwashing will make your condition appear worse. Your behavior did not give you pimples. A bad complexion is really caused by a complex process that you probably inherited. If you have zits, it may have been passed down to you from your parents if they had it. Thank them. They might have passed their acne prone skin to you.

Your face, neck and shoulders are covered with countless tiny hair follicles, each of which has sebaceous glands. These glands produce a thick oily substance called sebum. Blackheads and whiteheads develop when sebum, which normally flows out of our pores to coat our hair and skin, gets clogged inside, backs up, and inflames the follicle. When these blackheads and whiteheads get infected by a skin bacteria called P.acnes, they can turn into full blown pimples.

Okay, so sebum gets trapped within the pores, but what is it that’s plugging the pores in the first place? Dead skin cells from within the hair follicle. Now, we shed dead skin cells constantly, so the fact that they are dead is not the problem. It’s the way that we shed these particular skin cells that’s the issue. We don’t usually notice them at all because they come off one a a time. But if they “slough off” in sticky sheets instead of one at a time, we’ve got a problem. These clumps get stuck in the pores at the top of the hair follicles.Although we don’t know exactly how it operates, we do know thatwhat causes this improper shedding of skin cells is ultimately androgen hormones. Our androgen hormone levels max out during puberty and gradually taper off over the course of our lives.

Since hormone imbalance is the actual cause of a bad complexion many people experience acne when their hormones are out of control during adolescence, pregnancy, menopause, and when they are under stress. Don’t let your dirty skin worry you. Not being as clean as other people is not why you have zits, it’s your hormones and you didn’t ask for them. All pimple treatments are not created equal. You have to take your hormones into account for any pimple regimen to work.
