Gone are the days when men who paid attention to their appearance weren’t considered manly. Today’s metrosexual man wants to look healthy, handsome and well groomed.
Even looking fashionably dishevelled takes some preparation. Here are five simple tips that will help every man to look his best.
Face Your face is, very much, who you are. It is constantly exposed to the air, weather, pollutants and abuse. It is important to give it some particular attention.
Get to know your facial skin type. Most men have a mixture of skin types on their faces, sometimes called combination skin. Noses are often quite greasy, foreheads can be dry or greasy and necks can often be very dry and even flaky. Ensure that you wash your face with a gentle soap. If you know that your skin is sensitive always choose a soap that is fragrance and colouring free. Dry your face by dabbing with a towel, not rubbing, and always apply a moisturiser, ideally one that contains some UV protection.
Shaving can really take its toll on your facial skin. Try shaving after you’ve had a shower as this will soften your beard and make shaving much easier. Once you’ve shaved don’t splash any alcohol based aftershave all over your face. Instead choose a good, soothing balm to calm and moisturise your skin.
Hair Always choose a hair style that suits your face and your hair type. If you are going bald don’t go for a comb-over, they’re always a mistake. This never looks good. Instead get your hair cut short by a good hair stylist. Take a look at any celebrities or TV personalities who have similar hair and looks as you and then copy their hair style. But remember, mullets are never a good idea and pony tails only look good on ponies.
Don’t bake your hair dry using a hair dryer. It’s always better to let hair dry as naturally as possible. Try using a little wax or gel and experiment to find a product that you like.
Teeth Your smile says a lot about you. Have you ever notices how all Hollywood actors and TV personalities have glowing white teeth. Nothing is guaranteed to age you more than beige, stained teeth. Visit your dentist often and treat yourself to a little gentle teeth whitening.
Eyes A man’s eyes need special attention. The skin around the eyes is much thinner than the skin elsewhere on the face and it needs special attention. There are some very effective skin care products that are designed to reduce puffiness and lessen the appearance of lines around the eyes so why not treat yourself? A few eye-brightening drops can be used to give your eyes that appealing twinkle.
Lifestyle Looking good really means looking after yourself. Take a hard look at your bad habits, staying up late, smoking, drinking, your diet, your daily exercise and those stresses in your life. Ensure that you are eating healthily, drinking loads of fresh water, getting plenty of fresh air and sleep. Remember that it isn’t unmanly to look after your appearance so why not treat yourself to a few mens skin care products that you’ll actually use. Even if you do nothing else these basic lifestyle improvements will make a remarkable difference to the way that you look.
